HSE Work Related Injuries And Deaths Figures Available

The HSE website has published the names and details of those injured or killed at work since 2008, together with statistical breakdowns. For example the official figures, based on RIDDOR reports alone, show that between April and September 2010, show that 26 people were killed in work related incidents, of which 7 were members of the public, 7 were employees, and 12 were self employed.

These figures are of course disputed as not being totally inclusive of the thousands of incidents which occur each year and never get to be part of the statistics being collated by government bodies.

Hazards have argued for many years that the official figures create complacency when it comes to health and safety enforcement. Further detailed studies completed by Professor Steve Tombs and Dr Dave Whyte give the true picture and point to the HSE as being out of touch with what is really going on in the world of work in the UK.

Government cuts and the slashing of health and safety law and the HSE budget being cut by 35% will make things far worse.
